MOUNTAIN EQUIPMENT CO-OP HEAD OFFICE

The Mountain Equipment Co-op (MEC) Headquarters in Vancouver, BC, is a landmark green development made of BC timbers, floors and wall panels. Built to exceed LEED Platinum Specs, and estimated to be 70% more energy efficient than a traditional structure of the same size, this 112,000 s.f. building required more than 1.35 million board feet of lumber. Almost 600 lifts of kiln dried Douglas Fir (2x8 and 2x10 lumber) the massive floor and roof panels that were assembled in our shop before arriving on site.

Structural components include glulam columns/beams and nail laminated timber floors. The NLT Floor System connects to braced steel cores at the stairs and mechanical shafts to resist lateral forces. Composite cedar panels are used throughout the interior. the reclaimed wood flooring was salvaged from the building that previously occupied the site.
